Apple developing always-on iPhone status indicators
by Mike M. (GroupSwim) November 20. Tagged iphone apple
Apple has conceptualized a means of displaying icon-like
status indicators on the iPhone's displays even when the handset is
locked and the backlight turned off, a new company filing shows.
The Cupertino-based electronics maker notes that a traditional
way of conserving energy on handheld devices is to turn off a display
when the user does not need or want to view media. However, this
approach may make it difficult or impossible for a user to determine
the status of the device or identify any pending notifications without
first having to turn the unit on.

Apple iPhone 3G in the wild
by Mike M. (GroupSwim) July 10. Tagged iphone apple Mobile-Phone
The guys from iFixIt.com were on hand for the start of the
worldwide iPhone 3G launch in New Zealand this morning where they
purchased and began dissecting one of the new handsets.
The first thing they found was that the new iPhone contains a
boat load of microchips with proprietary Apple markings on them,
including an Apple-labeled Samsung processor.
Rumor has it that the folks at TechOnline will soon be
decapping the mysterious batch of Apple-labeled chips by soaking them
in an acid bath to eat away their ceramic coating. They'll then use
x-rays and other fancy equipment to examine them and try and determine
their origin.

Steve Jobs announced at WWDC that the new iPhone 3G would launch simultaneously in 22 countries on July 11 and expand to at least 70 countries by the end of 2008. What wasn't revealed was the unit and service pricing details for mobile carriers outside of AT&T in the US. Jobs also didn't brag up the hardball plan deals he forced upon carriers or his efforts to recreate a spectacular launch event

analyst Craig Berger said the Cupertino-based company revised both
third and fourth calendar quarter iPhone build numbers

Editor’s Note: The following article is reprinted from NetworkWorld.com.]
There’s been a lot written about the iPhone and the reasons why enterprises should not fully adopt this first-generation device for use by employees. Whether it’s the wireless network, lack of strong VPN support, or lack of direct Exchange connections for e-mail, there’s enough evidence (in Network World and on the Web) for you to cite when an executive comes to your office asking for IT iPhone support.
This is my first post regarding GroupSwim.com, and I wish to see hwo the tagging function works.
iPhones are great devices, but i wish internet surfing was much faster. the interface is very slick, and and you can watch lots of movies on it. Someone even posted a YouTube video showing a baby using it.
Peace,
